Next Chapter~ Sorry for the wait. Life hit me like a train this past week.

Previous Chapter

A tentative smile pulls at his lips, and Siwon feels the faint stirrings of relief. Maybe he’ll finally get some answers. Or maybe he’ll just wind up with more. The way his luck has been, it wouldn’t surprise him, but he’s willing to take the chance.

Leeteuk smiles a bit as well, turns to look at Donghae and glances back. “If you  don’t mind, Siwon-ssi.”

Siwon starts and looks at Donghae to see that he’s been left with barely any room to stand. “Oh! My bad Donghae-ssi.” Siwon retreats back towards the bed and stands awkwardly beside it. No matter how the atmosphere has changed, he’s still a little wary. He’s not giving up any edge he might have by sitting down.

Although, he muses, It would put a little more space between him and Donghae. Not that he wants the space, but that’s exactly why he’s putting it there. His, no not his, Donghae has thrown him for a loop, eliciting emotions he didn’t think possible, that he’s unable, or unwilling to identify.  He adds this strange attachment to a complete stranger to the growing list of weird things that have happened since he woke.

Donghae sighs a little. “Its just Donghae, Siwonnie.”

Donghae makes as if to come over by Siwon, but stops when Siwon shifts away from him. Something, is it hurt? Flickers through Donghae’s eyes for a split second before the smile is back full force. He stands there for a moment before turning to Leeteuk, “Teukie-hyung, I’ve got to go to work in a while, so I’m gonna go.”

Leeteuk frowns a bit “Really Hae? But work doesn’t start for few more hours. I‘d have thought you would want to stay here for as long as you could.”

Donghae’s eyes widen and he nods rapidly. “ Oh, I would! I just remembered that I promised to take the last end of Kyu’s shift so him and Yesung could go and set up early for their gig tonight.” He glances at Siwon from the corner of his eye.

Leeteuk’s frown disappears. “That’s right. I’d forgotten in all the  excitement of the last few days.” He chuckles softly. “ Go ahead, Hae.”

Donghae grins “Be nice to Siwonnie, Teukie. Okay?”

Leeteuk looks a little sheepish.

Donghae then turns to Siwon and says, “I’ll see you later Siwonnie. Don’t worry too much about what ever Teukie-hyung tells you.  We’re here to help you.”

Donghae looks around the room a final time before heading out the door. Leeteuk refocuses on Siwon, but Kangin gives a curious glance between the empty doorway and the man standing next to the bed.

Siwon’s feels a pang go through him as Donghae leaves the room, and it feels almost awkward to be alone in the room with the two remaining males. He feels naked and stripped bare, like Donghae’s  presence had grounded him, and now he is without.

He sighs softly, but turns his gaze to Leeteuk to find him looking back at him. “ What did you want to talk about Leeteuk-ssi?”

“Quite a bit actually, but first things first.  You probably need to get in contact with someone so they can quit worrying where you are.  Do have anyone you need to contact?“ Leeteuk offers him a cellphone. “you can call them using this.”

Siwon reaches out and takes it. “Thanks, but can’t I just go and tell them myself?”

Leeteuk gives a wry smile. “And that brings us to the second thing I wanted to talk to about. You don’t know anything about werewolves right?”

Siwon shakes his head, and turns a curious gaze to Leeteuk.

“Well, probably the first thing that you should know is that after a werewolf is Turned,  he is forced to change into his wolf shape for the first time.”

“Wait! What do you mean forced?”

Leeteuk glances up for a moment and hums in thought. “ Its like this. The magic of the transformation will need to access your wolf form, so if you don’t make the change first voluntarily, the magic will force it upon you, in an attempt to make  the necessary connections.” Leeteuk returned his eyes to Siwon and frowned. “This can be pretty dangerous, as it’s possible to either die from the first change or lose your mind.”

Siwon feels a terror hit him like a punch in the stomach, and his vision grays at the edges. He sits down. Hard.

He’d thought he’d had a good handle on himself, that he’d be able to take whatever else the threw at him. But this? This was more than he was prepared for. He was expecting life altering decisions, not the chance of death! Although, he thinks hysterically,  death would certainly alter his life. He wouldn't have one.

A dual pair of footsteps, a hand on his arm.

Siwon flinches away, and can feel himself tensing at the sensation of people being so close. He hears a sigh and a firm “Siwon-ssi!” He jerks and faces the voice. It was Leeteuk, and He focuses on his face. “Breathe slowly. Deep breaths.” Siwon struggles to comply, but eventually can feel his heart rate slow. Still, He can feel the fear hiding just under the surface of his skin, itching to get out, just waiting for him to let his guard down.

Leeteuk smiles reassuringly from his kneeling position at Siwon’s side, and its Kangin’s hand on his arm. Kangin give him a hard searching look, and backs away, apparently satisfied with what he sees. “You know, Leeteuk only said that it could happen, not that it will.”

Siwon looks uncertainly from Kangin to Leeteuk, and relaxes slightly when Leeteuk nods in agreement. “He’s right. There are several ways to control and ease the transition. However,” Siwon digs his hands into the sheets underneath him and clenches. Kangin snorts and Leeteuk sends him a mildly admonishing look, before shaking his head and returning his gaze to Siwon. “however, the easiest way to do that would be to accept you into our pack. Then we could use the pack magic to stabilize the change. Or we could try to find another way before the change happens, it’s your choice.”

Siwon can feel a headache starting. More life altering choices. He should have known. Part of the pack? “What exactly would being part of your pack mean? I’ve no idea about anything that goes along with being a… werewolf.

“Well, in simple terms, it means that you would have a connection to all of the other members of the pack, and that you’d be subject to the pack hierarchy. We’re not that different from regular wolves in that sense, with Alphas and Betas, the works. There’s more to it of course, but that‘s the basics.”

Siwon inhales deeply. “Would I still be able to live my normal life? As part of the pack, could I return to school? My job?”

Leeteuk grimaces slightly. “Well, really that depends on you, and how well you can control yourself. By now I’m sure you’ve noticed the new instincts?”

He waits for Siwon’s affirmation before continuing. “Well If you can learn to control them when around large groups of people, and in stressful situations, then yes, you could. It wouldn’t be until I’m completely convinced you can handle it though. As the Alpha, I’m responsible for actions of all the wolves In the pack, and I’m not NOT sending someone out where they could either hurt themselves or someone else.”

Siwon tousles his hair. “Okay, so let me see if I have this right. I’m going to turn into a wolf in a few days time, and it could either kill me or send me insane, and the only feasible way to stop that from happening is to join your pack, but if I do that I’d be bound to the pack and I’d have to listen to you, and if you don’t allow me to resume my normal life then I can’t. Is that right?”

Kangin grins. “That’s an interesting way of putting it.”

Leeteuk lips twitch and he rises. “Pretty much. Yeah, you‘ve got it.”

“So, saying I agree, hypothetically, What’s going to happen?”

“We’d have the initiation ritual, probably tomorrow night, so the entire pack can be here, and then we’d have to allow for a day for the magic of the pack bond to settle, and the night after that we’d induce your first change, because the longer you put it off, the more difficult it becomes. Hypothetically.”

Siwon nods in understanding before looking down and staring hard at his hands. it’s a big decision. Probably the biggest he has ever made. What should he do? He chews at his lips in frustration. He doesn’t know what to do. He’s had so much thrown at him in a short period of time, his head is spinning. He squeezes his eyes shut and grimaces, before sighing heavily. He’s just fooling himself. He knows what choice he’s going to take. If he has to choose between dying or going insane and not, he’d take the latter option.

He lets out a breath and looks back up at Leeteuk.  He hesitates for a  brief moment, and then says, “Okay, I’ll do it. I’ll join your pack.”

Leeteuk’s face is wearing a relieved smile and he looks to Kangin, and the two share a brief moment, before Leeteuk turns back to Siwon. “ Alright then, I’ll start getting everything arranged. Go ahead and call whoever you need, I’d let them know that you’ll probably not be back for a few weeks at the earliest. Kangin, Stay here please.”

Kangin gives Leeteuk a look before nodding. “Fine.” He says.

Apparently satisfied with the answer Leeteuk turns and heads out the doorway at a brisk pace.

An awkward stillness settles over the room before Siwon uncomfortably clears his throat  and asks “So, um, what should I tell people about the reason I’m not going to be there for a while?”

A shrug. “Just tell them an emergency came up with a friend of yours or something. Should keep both the friends and family happy.”

Siwon frowns in thought before nodding and he flips open the phone he still has in his hand and begins to dial.

“Hello? Mom? It’s me, Siwon.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Donghae closes the door behind and makes his way out of the sitting room that contains the entrance to Siwon’s room and into the hallway that leads to the rest of the house. He slowly walks to the room he uses when He visits, and once inside grabs a new change of clothes and removes his shirt, to start getting ready to go. However, halfway through changing his clothes he stops and stares blankly at the wall. He frowns and sits heavily on the bed.

Something is going on. He doesn’t know what, but something feels different. He feels different, and its not just the strange way he’s reacted to that new wolf, Siwon. Donghae snorts softly. Although that’s definitely a part of it. He’s always been a friendly person, he thinks. Willing to go above and beyond for his friends and even complete strangers.

But he’s never felt the sheer need to help someone like he does around Siwon. Like everything will be right in the world as long as the other is happy. Its baffling. And yet, for some reason, he doesn’t want it stop. Which is wrong. And that brings him back to the beginning again. Something is going on.

Donghae groans and flops back on the bed, making a face. He lays there for a moment before he hears a pair of footsteps approaching from down the hall. They slow to a stop as they reach his door, and soon enough he hears the door click open.

The scent of herbs assaults his nose, causing him to wrinkle it. He sits up to face the new comer. “Heechul!” he whines, “Honestly, you could shower or something after messing around with those concoctions  of yours…”

Heechul smirks down at him, “You don’t complain when you come asking me for help now do you?”

Donghae pouts. “But the smell! How can you stand the smell?”

Heechul merely raises an eyebrow. “I’m just that awesome. Now. I thought I’d drop by and try to catch you before you slipped off to work.” He pauses before asking bluntly. “What’s been up with you today? You go from being all quiet and withdrawn to bouncing of the walls like your hyped on sugar just like that.”

The other runs a hand through his hair. “I don’t know. I guess I’m just excited to have Siwon here, but worked up about the attack.”

“Glad to have Siwon here?” A grin.

Donghae frowns at him.  “Yeah. Don’t look at me like that. He seems nice, I like him.”

“Whatever you say Donghae.”

“What?”

“Oh, nothing.”

“Heechul…”

Heechul switches subjects abruptly. “Are you sure that’s the whole problem?”

Donghae hesitates. “Well, yeah. Maybe? I dunno. Something just feels weird. I feel weird.” He shakes himself and then smiles brightly. “I’m sure its nothing. I must be having an off day today.”

Heechul levels a disbelieving stare but acquiesces . “Are you getting ready to go to work?”

“Yeah I’m meeting Kyuhyun out there to take over his shift early. He and Yesung have an early gig tonight. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to the end. Why?”

Heechul reaches behind him and pushes the door back open. “Well, I was just wondering why you were sitting on your bed in your underwear. You might want to get dressed before you leave.” He smirks and quickly ducks back out into the hall, leaving Donghae staring after him a bemused expression. Eventually he just shrugs and returns to getting dressed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Donghae hyung!”

“Hey Kyu.”  Donghae strolls through the entrance of the pet shop where he works, the strong scents of the animals within hitting him like wall. He scrunches his nose briefly but focuses on Kyuhyun.

Kyuhyun sets the hamster in his hands back into it’s cage and closes it. He moves to the cleaning station in the corner to wash his hands. “I know I said I needed you here early, hyung. But not this early. You aren’t supposed to be here for another hour.”

Donghae slings himself up onto the check out counter. “Yeah I know. I needed an excuse to get out the house. You it’s impossible to lie, especially to Leeteuk. He’d be able to tell in an instant.” a grin plays at his lips. “but I could honestly say I had to meet you early. I just didn’t tell them how early.”

Kyuhyun dries off his hands and comes over to stand in front of the counter. “Hyung. You are impossible you know that?”

Donghae shows off an unrepentant grin. “Yep.”

“So why’d you want to leave?”

“Things are getting weird.”

A snort. “Weird, hyung?”

“They are! Leeteuk’s all over the place, Heechul is being all strange, and Siwon makes me feel…..weird.”

“Siwon?”

“He’s the new one. I was talking with him earlier today.”

“And he makes you feel….weird.”

“Eh, Kinda? I guess… I really like him quite a bit, but it’s kinda hard to control myself around him. I even slipped up and hugged him. I should know better than that.”

“That sounds familiar.”

“Huh?”

“Me, Zhou mi. That’s the same way it started out for me.”

A blush. “You’re joking.”

Kyuhyun moves behind the counter and shoves Donghae off. He yelps and crashes to the ground. He stands up and growls lightly at Kyuhyun.  “Sorry, hyung. Customer. And no I‘m not.” He gestures behind  Donghae.

Donghae blinks. “Oh, hey Yoochun.” He looks down to the stuff the man is putting on the counter. “Picking up stuff for Harang? How‘s he doing?”

Yoochun sends Donghae a friendly smile, and replies while Kyuhyun starts scanning the bags of dog treats. “Hello Donghae. Yeah,  He’s fine, just eaten all of his treats. The spoiled brat.” He’s silent for a second and glances around before leaning forward and whispering. “I heard about your new wolf Siwon.”

Kyuhyun raises an eyebrow at him. “How’d you manage that?”

Yoochun leans back, shrugs, and replies, “Junsu.”

Kyuhyun rolls his eyes. “I should have known.”

Yoochun grins an says. “It actually caught him by surprise, other wise I think he think he would have told someone about it. He and Siwon are pretty good friends, he only got a vision after the attack, and knew that he’d be in pretty good hands with you guys.” Yoochun frowns. “but for some reason the Sight isn’t allowing him to see Siwon’s future. It’s very strange.”

Kyuhyun gives Yoochun the total and he pulls out his credit card to pay.

Donghae sighs. “I wouldn’t doubt it. Nothing’s been normal since this whole mess started. You can just feel it.”

Yoochun grabs his bag, and looks at Donghae curiously, “ Wouldn’t go that far, but my talents don’t really lie in that direction. I‘m a witch not a seer. that would be Junsu's forte.”

Donghae cracks a grin and replies. “True.”

Yoochun smiles and says “Well, I’ve got to go. See you guys some other time. Feel free to drop by if you all need anything. I‘d be happy to help”

Kyuhyun snorts. “For a price.”

Yoochun nods with a grin, and then waves and heads out the door.

“Kyu?”

“Yeah hyung?”

“Were you really serious about having similar feelings for Zhou mi?”

Kyuhyun smirks. “Was I lying?”

Donghae frowns.  “No.”

“Then there you go.”

“There’s no way Siwonnie is my mate. I barely know him!”

“Whatever you say hyung.”

Donghae whines “Why does everyone keep saying that to me today?”

“Who knows hyung. You must be special.”

Donghae pouts and turns away. “I’m going to go put my stuff away.” and marches off, hearing Kyuhyun’s laughter behind him.

After he returns, Kyuhyun and Donghae run the check out lane for a while until it is time for Kyuhyun to leave. Donghae settles in for his shift, and waits for the clock to strike ten.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Donghae steps into the club and can feel the pulse of the place surround and envelope him. He quickly clamps down on his senses to stop it from becoming painful. There’s a reason so many werewolves don’t like public places. Even with his senses dampened they are still far better than any human, and the smells and sounds are almost enough to overwhelm.

He spots Kyuhyun and Yesung up on stage, apparently rearranging their set to resume after a break. He catches their eye and sends them a wave, before heading to the bar. He reaches it and pulls up a seat. Ordering a drink he turns around to face Yesung and Kyuhyun. They’re starting up a new song, and he remembers why he tortures himself by coming into these places. He’s not met many people who have the voices of the duo . They’ve got the talent to go professional, too bad that a werewolf’s lack of aging would make that extremely difficult, He thinks wryly. They could really be something.

“Donghae-ssi.”

Donghae jumps, startled. He whirls around, eyes blazing blue, and his control slips. The sensations of the the club rush in, and he winces and growls before pulling himself together. He grab the newcomer by the shirt and pulls him down to whisper fiercely in his ear.

“The fuck Changmin? Just because you’re  a vampire doesn’t mean that you should sneak up on me like that!”

Immediately after he finishes his statement, Donghae blushes and apologizes. Donghae lets go and the man straightens, a slight smirk gracing his features. “Sorry Donghae-ssi.” He settles in the seat next to Donghae with an unnatural grace. “What brings you here tonight?”

Donghae’s racing heart begins to settle, and he gestures towards the stage where Yesung and Kyuhyun have moved onto a new song. “Them.”

Another voice speaks up from the seat on the left of Donghae. “They aren’t half bad. I’ve seen better of course but….”

Changmin rolls his eyes. “Honestly, Jaejoongie. Play nice.”

Jaejoong turns to Donghae and Changmin, an almost invisible smile playing at his lips when he answers the other vampire. He inclines his head slightly “Fine, Min. Hello Donghae-ssi. How is Siwon-ssi doing?”

Donghae’s eyes widen. “Does everyone know about this? How do you know this?”

Jaejoong merely raises an eyebrow, but Changmin looks away and covers his mouth with a hand to hide a smile. Jaejoong replies. “It doesn’t matter.”

Donghae pouts at the two vampires but answers “He’s fine. At least from what I could tell.”

Jaejoong smiles mysteriously. “Well, that’s good. I’d keep an eye on him Donghae-ssi.” He removes his attention from Donghae and addresses Changmin. “ Do you want to go dance?”

Changmin replies. “Sure, Jaejoongie.”

The pair of vampires rise and melt into the crowd, Changmin calling over his shoulder “See you, Donghae-ssi.”
Donghae is confused by the actions of the two, but then again, no matter how long he’s known them, he’s never understood vampires. He shrugs off the foreboding feeling brought about by Jaejoong’s words and settles back with a drink to continue to watch Kyuhyun and Yesung’s performance.

After a while, he decides to step outside to get some fresh air. The club is beginning to get to him.  He once again gestures to the performers on stage, but this time to let them know he is heading outside. Feeling a surge of confirmation through the pack bond, he steps through the exit.

He takes a deep breath  as he steps outside. He moves down the side walk and sits on the curb. He stares across the road for a moment before looking up at the waning moon above. He feels a wash of calm creep up on him.

“Hyung!”

Donghae looks over and sees Kyuhyun and Yesung coming out of the door of the club.

“You’re still out here hyung?” Kyuhyun questions.

Donghae frowns. “Well, yeah. I just came out here. What are you guys doing here? I thought you guys had to perform until two this morning.”

Yesung’s eyebrows shoot up. “It’s two thirty, Donghae. You’ve been out here for nearly three hours. We thought you went home.”

Donghae is shocked. “Really? It feels like I just came out here a few moments ago. I must have zoned out.”

Kyuhyun looks at him with disbelief. “You must have been really out of it.”

Donghae stands and stifles a yawn. “Or maybe I fell asleep. I’m exhausted.”

Yesung nods. “Makes sense.”

Kyuhyun shakes his head in exasperation. “Only you hyung.”

Donghae laughs sheepishly and yawns again. “I think I’m going to head home. I’ve spent the last three days at Alpha’s place.  It’ll be nice to sleep in my own bed.”

Yesung voices his agreement, but Kyuhyun speaks up after him. “Don’t forget about tomorrow”

Donghae is confused. “Tomorrow?”

“We’re bringing Siwon-ssi into the pack tomorrow night. Didn’t Leeteuk let you know?”

Donghae flashes back to the shout of excitement he had let slip earlier at work when Leeteuk had informed him over through the pack bond. He blushes. “I forgot. Yeah I’ll make sure to remember. See you both tomorrow.”

Parting ways from Kyuhyun and Yesung, Donghae heads back to his apartment, struggling to keep his eyes open. Once he makes it to his apartment he enters, and locks the door behind him. Dropping his bag and keys on the table he stumbles into his room and collapses on the bed. He’s asleep before his head hits the pillow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A cell phone ringing.

Donghae groans and opens his eyes blearily to look at the clock. The red letters flash at him mockingly.Super. He stumbles to his feet and into the kitchen. Fishing through the stuff on the table he eventual retrieves his cell phone and answers it.

“Hello?”

“Hae!”

Donghae rubs at his eyes sleepily and stifles a yawn. “Hyukkie? Its six in the morning.”

“I know, but its important.”

Donghae groans involuntarily. “What is it this time?”

“We found a note taped to the door of the house. We can’t get any read on it other than the fact that it seems to be the people who Turned Siwon.”

A rush of adrenaline enters Donghae’s system, immediately waking him up.

He shoves a pair of shoes on his feet, and grabs the rest of his stuff off the table.

“I’m on my way.”
